The Company Series: Entartete Kunst
This is Rymenhild's fic, and it was so hard to write! I loved writing it, but it consumed my life because of the details of working in real history (how does Kage Baker dooo iiit? I will never know). I loved researching and finding things out, like how most children escaped from the orphanage they were being kept in, or about the comic artists of the Netherlands and their response to Nazi restrictions. Also, I got to write Van Drouten!
(I cried. A lot. I was okay mostly with researching all of the horrific WWIIness but then there'd be some sort of happy story and I burst into tears. I think this worried my roommate! Or it would have if she was normal and not sarcastic-awesome. As it was, Aiwei was just like "Geeze, Katy, you're like a sprinkler system" <3)
The title is German for "Degenerate Art," referring to their term for non-Greco-Roman classical style stuff. Given the references to the children as treasures, etc., and Van Drouten's artist-friends I felt like it fit :)
Also, this was the first time I have ever had extensive beta-ing! It was freaking awesome!
[NOTE: THERE IS A GLARING "FORGOT TO DELETED ALL OF SENTENCE" ERROR. SORRY.]
Princess Tutu: En Pointe
So, Becca introduced me to this crack known as Princess Tutu. I am pretty sure I once watched ten episodes in a day. Therefore when I was scrolling down the list of treats and saw Paceus's comment requesting Princess Tutu fic, giving the option of post-canon, I though "huh. Post canon Princess Tutu fic that is not just Ahiru/Fakir. What a concept."
And then I went to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night with the thought Rue knows there is pain in beauty: Rue wears toe shoes and wrote that and the first scene in a mad dash of nearly illegible handwriting into my chemistry lab notebook (I know Lynne, bad form! BUT IT WAS NEARBY I HAVE NO REGRETS) and then fell back asleep.
So I go to the airport the next day to go to my grandparents, and I pulled out the notebook and started writing without stopping. I kept a running ledger of the wordcount on the side of the notebook to try and make it a yuletide treat. Finally, at 1078 words I felt that no matter how much I cut I would have enough! And I wrote it. and it got longer and longer and longer. Then there were wacky hijinks when I decided Paceus would HATE IT and Ana and Lexie strongarmed me into posting it.
I still find it amusing that the fic I wrote while feverish is the one people think has good prose! But I was really glad to ahve the chance to explore post-canon Rue: she's one of my least favorite canon characters (I love her! Just...not as much?) but she is ridiculously interesting! And it ticks me off that her life revolved around Mytho and that is supposed to be her happy ending. And I'm glad other people thought the same way!

on 2009-01-02 12:01 am (UTC)Though, more seriously, I feel like it was worth posting just for that one line. It's a very evocative one. Opening and closing with it sets a lot of the mood.
Unhelpfully,
Ana

on 2009-01-02 08:08 am (UTC)Omg, if you hadn't posted...! Let's say I'm very happy that you did. It's marvellous. I recced (http://paceus.livejournal.com/96859.html) it and reviewed (http://paceus.livejournal.com/97931.html#cutid3) (sort of) it, in case you hadn't noticed.
Thank you for writing me such a beautiful, lovely story! And I completely understand how much you can love your least favourite Princess Tutu character: they are just all so wonderful!
